An inspiring AGM

After a few delays (it was due in April) the Group finally got its AGM business done, with chairman’s and treasurer’s reports presented, accounts accepted, and officers and committee elected. It is fair to say that the Group’ affairs are in good order, but like many voluntary organisations, finds committee members in short supply. The workaround has been to find small jobs that need doing, but that can be carried out by one or two people on a regular basis.

Secretary Bev opens proceedings, with Roy standing by with his report.

To all who help run the Group, we offer our thanks and encouragement.

Discussion afterwards was wide ranging, and plenty ideas for events in greater variety came forward. Repeats of some we enjoyed in the past are no longer repeatable, but some, like the arty cream tea, could be rejuvenated in a different fashion. Group trips to places and venues of interest might be investigated. An opportunity for an organiser who does not want permanent commitment, perhaps?

As well as the business side of the evening, we had refreshments, a view of the sketching group’s work, and the unveiling of our ‘floral’ postcards. The quality of these is superb! They will be on display at the Dovetail Centre for the rest of the summer, including at our exhibition (16-25 August) and our Hampshire Open Studio alongside.

Thank you to all who volunteer, in whatever capacity, and thank you for attending, and for your ideas.

AGM tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our Annual General Meeting takes place tomorrow (Tuesday 25th) at 7.30 prompt, at the Dovetail Cafe, part of the Methodist Church complex. It is open to members only.

This has a small amount of business, like approving the accounts, which have been circulated along with the rest of the official papers (including the Chairman’s report). We also say farewell, but only in responsibility terms, to our fabulous membership secretary, Gill Brophy, who has kept going through very difficult times recently. Her words about changing from a completely paper based system, which it was in 2011, to a wholly online – and in the cloud – basis were very interesting. That took me back!

The AGM will formally appoint her successor, Brenda Molyneau. Thank you for volunteering, and best wishes, Brenda!

We will be socialising afterwards with a fun quiz, and our display of postcard animals. You can bring yours along to add to the collection if you’re a real last-minuter!

AGM Reminder – 26th April

This members only event takes place at the Dovetail Cafe tomorrow, Wed 26th April at 7.30.

Apart from the business end of the meeting, which we will get out of the way pretty quickly, there will also be a (no doubt) highly entertaining talk on Joaquin Soralla.

One of the main aims of the evening is to share and obtain members’ views on events planned or up for consideration, so please come along and let your views be known.

You will find all the documents for the meeting in your email from Bev Dunstan on 18th April.

Joaquín Sorolla

Anne Anderson will be giving a talk on Joaquín Sorolla after this years AGM. Anne is a highly respected art historian and professor, known for her insightful and engaging presentations on art history.

Her previous talk on Monet was well received at the AGM last year, and attendees can expect another informative and thought-provoking talk on Sorolla. Sorolla’s paintings are known for their luminosity, capturing the fleeting effects of light and colour on his subjects. Anne will likely discuss Sorolla’s unique style and techniques, as well as his influence on the development of modern art.

Overall, it’s exciting to look forward to another great talk by Anne, and attendees can expect to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Joaquín Sorolla’s contributions to the world of art.

New Members Gallery is now live!

It was high on the ‘wish list’ of features we couldn’t just copy from our old website: a gallery of members’ artwork. We had one image for several members, but needed to develop a new one and get you involved.

On the technical side, the layout we’ve chosen for the whole website is driven by the desire to be able to display images. And what better way to use it than to show off the talent of our members, with every member who participates eligible to display up to four of their artworks.

Image of the screen – not clickable!

So click on the link on the side menu “Members Gallery”. You’ll find a selection for each artist participating, in a fairly random order. Click or tap the artist’s name or their image, and you’ll get their page. If you want to see the images larger, click the image and you can scroll through that artist’s four works one per page. A few pages are still under construction.

This has been a great effort on behalf of the artists concerned to get their images photographed and sent to Roy. But the huge amount of work of collating it, filing it neatly, and correcting, (and negotiating), and chasing, has been down to Roy, who has done a brilliant job of corralling it all. I just put it into the website 🙂

So if you haven’t yet picked out your samples, please do, any time, and send them in. There’s a link at the bottom of the gallery page explaining how to do that. Your webmaster might get around to it too, now. 🙂

Now active – our social media pages

Chandlers Ford Art Group now has an active page on Facebook, a Twitter feed, and an account on Instagram. Rachel Harcourt and Jacky Pett have set them up, and need you to help us make it social!

Facebook

The Facebook page has been going a few weeks now. Thank you to everybody who has already ‘Liked’ it. In order to get posts sent to your own page you also need to ‘follow’ it. The number of Followers is below the number of Likes, but I’m probably one of the missing people!
